Proper weight shift is a key element in the golf swing influencing power and solid contact with the golf ball. When you are transferring your weight efficiently your club head speed increases which is the most important factor when it comes to more distance.
One of the killers of efficient weight transfer is the dreaded “sway.” A sway is a term used to describe a lateral weight shift that is characterized by weight being on the outside of the right shoe (right handed golfers) at the top of the backswing. A sway can looks like someone over-swinging when they have this swing characteristic.
So, how you correct the sway and make our weight transfer more efficient?
Try this Drill: Place a golf ball on the outside of your right shoe (right-handed golfers) as pictured. Take easy swings feeling like your body is staying centered and you are turning up into your right hip. You should feel weight on the inside of your right heel at the top of your backswing. If you feel weight on the outside part of your right foot, you have swayed. Practice a better weight shift and you will see improved clubhead speed and distance.
